Based on the review of substantial research, the port of houston authority is convinced that the proposed bayport container terminal will be environmentally safe and economically beneficial to the surrounding community. in fact, four environmental agencies agree with us. the texas parks and wildlife department, the u.s. environmental protection agency, the u.s. fish and wildlife service, and the texas commission on environmental quality have each submitted written statements indicating that the port authority's environmental plan adequately addresses their concerns and establishes appropriate conditions for the u.s. army corps of engineers to issue a permit for the project. the port authority's environmental plan for bayport includes several features: buffer zones a 128-acre buffer zone and a 20-foot earthen berm planted with aesthetic vegetation and trees will separate the terminal from surrounding communities and lessen noise and lighting impacts. coast prairie habitats more than 450 acres along the lower part of the san jacinto river and 500 acres on the katy prairie will be preserved to complete a package that compensates for the impacts from the proposed terminal facilities. traffic flow improvement cruise terminal traffic originally routed along red bluff and todville road has been rerouted to a new road -- cruise road -- located inside the berm. also, the todville road intersection has been replaced with new intersections between port road and cruise road and cruise road and todville road. air quality improvement the use of clean fuel and clean engine technology will help reduce air emissions at bayport. our existing container facility at barbours cut recently completed an initiative to convert 28 rubber-tired gantry cranes and 25 yard tractors to purinox, a diesel emulsion fuel that produces significantly lower levels of nitrogen oxide nox ; and particulate matter air emissions. wetland creation a 173-acre property acquisition near highway 146 and red bluff will be turned into a conservation easement to offset aquatic resource impacts. the site also will be used to create wetlands to mitigate the nearly 20 acres of impacted jurisdictional wetlands on the bayport site. marsh creation dredge materials placed off-site will be put to beneficial use, creating up to 200 acres of estuarine marsh habitat. upon the completion and opening of the bayport facility, the port authority is committed to implementing an environmental management system that complies with iso 14001, the global standard for environmental excellence. last year, our barbours cut container terminal and central maintenance facilities became the first of any u.s. port facilities to meet this standard. for more information about the port authority's environmental efforts, visit portofhouston. The johnny miller and robert muir graves-designed course set in canyons and ravines, features 100-yearold live-oaks, sycamores, creeks, lakes, waterfalls, and over 40 acres of native wildflowers. the course plays 7, 115 yards from the back tees. with six sets of tees, the course is enjoyable to all skill levels.
